The Central Epidemic Command Center announced today (21st), that 2,438 new local cases have been added in Taoyuan (8.4% aged above 65; 24.03% aged below 18). The Central Epidemic Command Center announced the addition of 3 new severe child cases yesterday (20th), all of whom are sick with Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), aged 1–11 years old, with no medical history of chronic diseases, and have not received vaccinations. Five cases of Omicron BA.5 variant have been added in Taoyuan yesterday (20th). To protect our children and community, Director Wang called for the public to receive vaccination in full, especially the children and the elderly. In addition, Director Wang urged the public to continue to take individual public health measures thoroughly every day, these include practicing hand hygiene, maintaining cough manners and wearing masks, and also avoiding crowded places and unnecessary travel.

The Public Health Bureau also reminded that lately phishing attempts are being made by scam gangs by sending out fraudulent SMS (text messages), emails, Apple iMessages and Line messages under the name of the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control stating that the Ministry of Health and Welfare is providing a 30–50K government subsidy for confirmed cases due to the influence of Covid-19, luring the public into clicking on a malicious link and providing personal identity information, etc. If application of epidemic prevention compensation is required, you may visit the epidemic prevention compensation section of the Ministry of Health and Welfare webpage (website: https://swis.mohw.gov.tw/covidweb/). Regarding the handling situation of home care in Taoyuan City, Director Wang explained that currently there are 18,339 cases in progress; to date, 572,120[LL1] care cases have been accumulated with 568,173 cases completed, resulting in a cumulative completion rate of about 99.3%. As of August 21st, Taoyuan’s dedicated ICU has offered 38 beds, with 28 patients admitted and 10 vacant beds; 443 dedicated wards are allocated, with 154 patients admitted and 289 vacant beds, achieving an admission rate of about 34.8%, indicating that the hospital’s capacity is sufficient.
