Advance Medical Decisions and End-of-Life Medical Care

In order to respect a patient’s medical autonomy, safeguard their end-of-life rights, and promote harmonious doctor-patient relationships, the Patient Right to Autonomy Act was enacted on January 6, 2019.

This act allows every willing individual, who is of legal age (or a minor who is married) and possesses full legal capacity, to make informed choices and decisions regarding their medical condition and treatment options.

Through advance medical care counseling, they can formally establish advance medical decisions in writing, choosing to accept or reject life-sustaining treatment, artificial nutrition and fluid feeding, or other end-of-life medical care options in accordance with their own wishes. This empowers individuals to make the most appropriate medical choices based on their preferences and relieves their families from difficult decisions, allowing them to peacefully complete the final journey of life with dignity.
